Call for research stay 2022  

Aimed at students, professors or researchers interested in Cuban studies.

From Programa Cuba we would like to invite graduate students, university professors and social researchers to apply for the on-site research stay in the second semester of 2022 to be held at the facilities of the Sergio Arboleda University in Bogota, Colombia. After the pandemic, we resume this experience of face-to-face academic exchange, after three virtual experiences, where visitors will be able to exchange with students of the Semillero de Estudios sobre Cuba, in addition to having the opportunity to present their research and publish in the media provided by Programa Cuba.
 

Terms of reference

  • Graduate students, university professors and social researchers who are inside or outside Cuba and who can demonstrate their research trajectory in the field of Cuban studies may apply.

  • Applicants must be able to stay in Bogota for at least three weeks.

  • If individuals live in Cuba and require a visa to stay in Colombia, they must specify this in their application. With partner organizations we have the possibility to arrange visas with the commitment to return to Cuba once the research stay is over.

  • The person who is accepted must arrange his/her own accommodation.

 

Important dates

  • Opening of the call: Monday June 29, 2022

  • Closing date: July 29, 2022 at 5:00 pm Colombian time.

  • Announcement of the selected person: Monday, August 8, 2022 at 2:00 pm Colombian time. 

  • Period of stay: August to November 2022 

 

Benefits

  • Payment of round-trip airfare in economy class

  • 2500 USD stipend for lodging, accommodation and meals

  • Work space at the University

  • Access to the library and the University campus

  • Visa fees for those who require it.


Commitments

  • Coordination of an issue of the journal Foro Cubano with at least 8 texts.

  • Keynote lecture on the selected person's research topic (1 hour).

  • Short course of 12 hours (4 sessions) for University students.

  • Joint publication with the Principal Investigator of Programa Cuba

 

Application

  • Resume with a record of studies, publications, courses taught and research projects developed.

  • Proposed work plan for the three-week stay in Colombia including the short course, the conference, the Cuban Forum issue and the joint publication. 

  • Brief research proposal including the problem, question and publication proposal.

 

The application must be submitted in a single PDF file that includes the name of the applicant and his/her e-mail address on the cover page. A table of contents should include (1) the curriculum vitae; (2) the work plan; and (3) the brief research proposal.
